Lesson 1.5 — Information & Risk Assessment
PC 1.1 to 1.4 are about discipline before drama. Pull the job card and confirm exactly what work is required. Retrieve the manufacturer's depower procedure for the exact model, year and battery variant — a 2019 LEAF and a 2023 LEAF do not share a procedure. Complete a written risk assessment (JSA/SWMS): identify hazards (HV, stored energy, vehicle movement, capacitors, coolant, lifting), rate the risks and record the controls using the hierarchy — eliminate, substitute, isolate (that is the depower itself), engineer, administrate, and PPE last. Then lay out tools and inspect every item: a nicked insulated tool or an expired glove fails the job before it starts.
- Read the job card — confirm the customer complaint and the work scope
- Identify vehicle: VIN, model year, battery variant, HV system voltage
- Retrieve OEM depower/reinitialise procedure and safety data
- Complete the JSA/SWMS risk assessment and have it countersigned
- Select PPE and tools; inspect and record serviceability
- Set up the exclusion zone: barriers, signage, insulating mat, fire extinguisher accessible
Evidence task
Upload your completed JSA/SWMS risk assessment form and a photo of your prepared work zone (barriers, signage, PPE laid out).
