This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to press wool into bales and perform related tasks. This unit applies to individuals who work under general supervision and exercise limited autonomy with some accountability for their own work. They identify and provide solutions to a limited range of predictable problems. All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures and work health and safety (WHS) practices according to state/territory health and safety regulations, legislation and standards that apply to the workplace. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements are known to apply to this unit at the time of publication.

E1Prepare for wool pressing
0807.E1.O1Communicate with wool harvesting team members to identify WHS hazards and report to the supervisor
0807.E1.O2Select, use and fit suitable personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly
0807.E1.O3Check the wool press for safe operation and report any issues to supervisor
0807.E1.O4Carry out any required lubrication and maintenance as directed by supervisor
0807.E1.O5Prepare the work area in readiness for pressing as instructed
0807.E1.O6Check the scales to be used for accuracy and calibrate, if necessary, as instructed

0807.E2.O1Apply safe working practices using the available safety equipment
0807.E2.O2Remove contamination from the woolpack and place in the appropriate location
0807.E2.O3Place all wool correctly and evenly in the press, as directed
0807.E2.O4Press bales safely for weight and length as directed
0807.E2.O5Keep work area in a condition that avoids contamination of the wool

0807.E3.O1Use approved bale dividers as instructed and ensure flaps are correctly fastened
0807.E3.O2Identify bales for branding before removing them from the press
0807.E3.O3Store bales safely, avoiding injury to presser, risk to other workers, and damage to bales and equipment

0807.E4.O1Brand bales as directed according to workplace procedures
0807.E4.O2Weigh bales and have weight confirmed by supervisor
0807.E4.O3Record bale weights, numbers and descriptions using the appropriate recording system, as directed, and confirm with the supervisor
