This unit describes the performance outcomes required to inspect, service and repair auxiliary braking systems. It involves preparing for the task, inspecting the system, servicing and carrying out any necessary repairs to the system, performing post-service or repair testing, and completing workplace processes and documentation. It applies to those working in the automotive service and repair industry. The auxiliary braking systems include those of agricultural machinery, heavy commercial vehicles or mobile plant machinery. The unit applies to vehicles or machinery fitted with speed reducing or control devices, such as engine brakes, exhaust brakes or hydraulic or electrical retarders. No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
