This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to prepare and apply custom painting techniques to a variety of vehicle body panels or substrates in order to produce custom illustrations, graphics and visual effects. It includes developing paint stencils and applying clear or tinted topcoat refinishing materials by spray gun application. This unit involves preparing for the task, selecting and using specialist tools and equipment, selecting designs and creating special painted effects using refinishing materials according to workplace or customer instructions, and completing workplace processes and documentation. The unit applies to those working in the automotive paint refinishing repair industry. No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
