This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to supervise the removal process for friable and non-friable asbestos containing material (ACM). The unit includes planning for and supervising the removal process, including preparing the work area and the worksite, using safe and compliant removal practices, maintaining safety procedures, and supervising the decontamination and removal processes. Ensuring compliance with the asbestos removal control plan (ARCP) is central to the effective performance of the role. This includes ensuring and documenting that required air monitoring and other testing and certification processes are conducted by licensed asbestos assessors according to legislation. Site locations include domestic, commercial, demolition and construction, ships, soils and fences. Candidates are advised to check for regulatory requirements relating to relevant industry

0169.E2.O6Ensure that utilities are deactivated and secured, and relevant persons are notified prior to commencing work.
0169.E2.O7Identify asbestos waste storage and waste transit route according to site-specific ARCP.
E3Supervise compliant testing.
0169.E3.O1Communicate with the licensed asbestos assessor to ensure compliance with legislative requirements for air monitoring and enclosure integrity.
0169.E3.O2Check conformity of air monitoring test result in consultation with licensed asbestos assessor and apply relevant action in accordance with regulatory requirements.
0169.E3.O3Notify health and safety regulator if air monitoring levels are above 0.02 fibres/millilitre.
0169.E3.O4Post daily air monitoring readings on the worksite according to legislative requirements.
E4Supervise removal and decontamination processes.
0169.E4.O1Manage ongoing serviceability checks for equipment and tools conforming with manufacturer specifications for use.
0169.E4.O2Supervise removal of asbestos according to the ARCP and SWMS.
0169.E4.O3Organise removal of ACM waste from site according to environmental regulatory obligations and ARCP.
0169.E4.O4Supervise facilities and processes to ensure compliant decontamination of workers, work area and worksite, including plant, tools and equipment.
0169.E4.O5Secure site until clearance inspection is undertaken and clearance certificate has been received.
0169.E4.O6Upon receiving clearance certificate ensure decontaminated plant, tools and equipment are removed from the work area.
0169.E4.O7Supervise the dismantling of enclosures and relevant equipment (friable) and clean up.
