This unit of competency specifies the skills and knowledge required to fix standard plasterboard wall sheets to comply with manufacturers’ and job specifications. A person working at this level would be expected to take responsibility for organising and completing tasks assigned to them without close supervision. Completion of the general construction induction training program specified by the model Code of Practice for Construction Work is required for any person who is to carry out construction work. Achievement of unit CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement. Licensing, legislative and/or certification requirements may apply to this unit in some states/territories.

E1Plan and prepare.

0233.E1.O1Read and interpret work instructions, determine sign-off requirements, plan sequence of work and complete notifications.

0233.E1.O2Plan all work to comply with laws and regulations, the National Construction Code (NCC), Australian Standards, work health and safety (WHS) and environmental requirements, manufacturers’ specifications, and workplace requirements.

0233.E1.O3Select and use personal protective equipment (PPE) for each stage of the task.

0233.E1.O4Inspect work site, locate services, assess hazards and apply risk controls, including required signage and barricades.

0233.E1.O5Collect evidence that the carpenter has completed the substrate to be plaster ready.

0233.E2.O4Plan cutting process to minimise dust exposure.

E3Fix standard wall sheets.

0233.E3.O1Hang and fix sheets using manual handling techniques and following manufacturers’ specifications, ensuring the sheets have appropriate gap from the floor.

0233.E3.O2Check work to ensure stop-up activities can be easily completed.

E4Clean up.

0233.E4.O1Clear work area and dispose of, reuse or recycle materials.

0233.E4.O2Clean, check, maintain and store tools and equipment in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications.
