This unit of competency specifies the skills and knowledge required to install wall and ceiling systems that satisfy environmental requirements in terms of acoustic ratings and energy efficiency ratings in accordance with sustainable building practices. It includes planning and preparation for work, installation of insulation to wall cavities and plenum, installation of acoustic systems and completion of post work clean-up activities. A person working at this level would be expected to take responsibility for organising and completing tasks assigned to them without close supervision. Completion of the general construction induction training program specified by the model Code of Practice for Construction Work is required for any person who is to carry out construction work. Achievement of CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement. No licensing,

E1Plan and prepare.
0245.E1.O1Read and interpret work instructions and plan sequence of work.
0245.E1.O2Plan all work to comply with laws and regulations, the National Construction Code (NCC), Australian Standards, work health and safety (WHS) and environmental requirements, manufacturers’ specifications, and workplace requirements.
0245.E1.O3Select and use personal protective equipment (PPE) for each stage of the task.
0245.E1.O4Inspect work site, assess hazards and apply risk controls, including required signage and barricades.
0245.E1.O5Select tools and equipment, check for serviceability and report any faults that may affect the safe operation of the equipment, tag equipment and set aside.
0245.E1.O6Select materials required for task, calculate quantities, handle safely and prepare and position ready for use.
E2Install blanket insulation to walls.
0245.E2.O1Determine stud configuration for installation processes.
0245.E2.O2Install safety wire mesh.
0245.E2.O3Install insulating blanket in full length runs where practicable or, if joined, make joints at centre of frame member.

E3Install acoustic systems.
0245.E3.O1Select specified acoustic materials in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications for walls and ceiling.
0245.E3.O2Select specified acoustic plaster sheeting and acoustic ceiling tiles in accordance with manufacturers' weighted sound reduction index (RW rating).
0245.E3.O3Fix and seal acoustic plaster sheeting and acoustic tiles to walls and ceiling.
E4Clean up.
0245.E4.O1Clear work area and dispose of, reuse or recycle materials.
0245.E4.O2Clean, check, maintain and store tools and equipment in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications.
