This unit of competency specifies the skills and knowledge required to select, use, store and maintain a range of commonly used painting and decorating tools and equipment. The unit is suitable for those with basic skills and knowledge undertaking routine work tasks under the direction of more experienced workers. Completion of the general construction industry training program specified by the model Code of Practice for Construction Work is required for any person who is to carry out construction work. Achievement of CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

E1Plan and prepare.

0256.E1.O2Plan all work to meet relevant requirements of work health and safety (WHS), Commonwealth and state or territory legislation, environmental plans and obligations, manufacturers’ specifications, and workplace requirements.
E2Select and prepare hand and power tools and equipment.
0256.E2.O1Select tools and equipment, including personal protective equipment (PPE) for the task and identify their functions, limitations and safe methods of operation.
