This unit of competency specifies the skills and knowledge required to colour-match new and existing painting finishes. The unit includes matching of paint colour to a specified sample. A person who has achieved this unit of competency would be expected to take responsibility for organising and completing these tasks with a high degree of self-direction. Completion of the general construction induction training program specified by the model Code of Practice for Construction Work is required for any person who is to carry out construction work. Achievement of CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

E1Plan and prepare.
0262.E1.O1Review work instructions to interpret and match paint colour.
0262.E1.O2Plan all work to meet relevant requirements of work health and safety (WHS), Commonwealth and state or territory legislation, environmental plans and obligations, manufacturers’ specifications, and workplace requirements.
0262.E1.O3Select tools and equipment, including personal protective equipment (PPE), check for serviceability and report any faults.
E2Match paint colour to sample.
0262.E2.O1From a provided colour sample, determine paint type and sheen level.
0262.E2.O2Select paint type, paint base and colourants for colour match.
0262.E2.O3Mix and match colour against sample and allow to dry.
0262.E2.O4Test dry paint to establish accuracy of match of colour, adjusting and repeating testing process as required.

E3Clean up.
0262.E3.O1Clear work area and check and maintain tools and equipment and clean with appropriate solvents without damage.
0262.E3.O2Dispose of water and solvents used in cleaning tools and equipment in an environmentally sustainable manner.
0262.E3.O3Store tools, equipment and sealed unused materials to avoid spontaneous ignition.
