This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to sling and move materials under supervision. It includes selecting and securing slings and safely moving loads. Shifting equipment refers to equipment excluding that requiring a certificate of competency for operation as specified by state and territory licensing requirements. This unit is suitable for people with basic skills and knowledge who undertake routine work tasks under the direction of more experienced workers. Completion of the general construction induction training program specified by the model Code of Practice for Construction Work is required for any person who is to carry out construction work. Achievement of CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

E2Move, locate and secure load
0334.E2.O1Select, fit correctly and use personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriate for job.

0334.E2.O3Identify and locate shifting/anchorage points and select slings, tackles and associated shifting gear appropriate for the weight and shape of the load.
0334.E2.O4Inspect slings, tackles and lifting gear for wear and tear and damage and report faults to supervisor.
0334.E2.O5Position and securely attach strongbacks/stiffeners.
0334.E2.O6Secure packaging to protect load and connect load to lifting gear.
0334.E2.O7Prepare location to receive load.
0334.E2.O8Stand load vertically, if necessary, move to required location and secure in position.
0334.E2.O9Remove slings from load and lifting equipment and remove packaging from material.
E3Clean up.
0334.E3.O1Clean slinging equipment and check for and report damage.
0334.E3.O2Clear the work area, and dispose of, reuse or recycle materials following workplace and environmental requirements.
