This unit specifies the skills and knowledge to select and install insulation, roof battens and wall cladding involving metallic, non-metallic or other approved roof covering materials. In some jurisdictions, this unit of competency may form part of accreditation, licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements.

E1Identify installation requirements.
0531.E1.O1Access, read and determine roof sheeting and wall cladding installation requirements from job specifications, relevant Australian Standards, codes, manufacturer’s instructions and jurisdictional requirements.
0531.E1.O2Identify and apply workplace policies and procedures, work health and safety (WHS) and environmental requirements.
0531.E1.O3Identify whether materials to be used are compatible with the surrounding environment and other materials within the installation.
0531.E1.O4Determine material types and calculate quantities from plans and specifications.
0531.E1.O5Identify roof insulation and wall cladding to meet thermal, acoustic, moisture and bushfire control requirements.
0531.E1.O6Identify safety mesh requirements to support the installation requirements.
E2Receive delivery of materials.

E4Install roof sheeting.
0531.E4.O1Perform installation and fix selected insulation ensuring acoustic, thermal, moisture and bushfire control.
0531.E4.O2Measure, cut and fix roof battens for the installation at correct spacings to match plans, in accordance with jurisdictional legislation.
0531.E4.O3Measure, cut, weather and install roof sheets using appropriate fastening spacings and methods.
0531.E4.O4Remove swarf end of installation.
E5Install wall cladding.
0531.E5.O1Perform installation and fix selected insulation ensuring acoustic, thermal, moisture and fire control.
0531.E5.O2Measure, cut and fasten battens at correct spacings to match plans, in accordance with jurisdictional legislation.
0531.E5.O3Measure, cut and install wall cladding and flashings using appropriate fastening spacing and methods.
0531.E5.O4Install thermal breaks as required.
E6Clean up.
0531.E6.O1Remove swarf off cladding, flashings and gutter and clear any rivet stems and fasteners.
0531.E6.O2Clear the work area and dispose of, reuse or recycle materials in accordance with state or territory legislation and workplace requirements.
0531.E6.O3Clean tools and equipment, check for serviceability and report any damage, and store and secure.
