This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to research, evaluate and select existing, new and incoming technologies and components for fire system detection and suppression systems. The unit also involves developing a broad understanding of the range of products available and their application, operation, performance and interaction. This unit of competency supports the work of fire systems' designers and certifiers who need to: understand the characteristics, operation and interaction of fire system technologies and components select and assess fire system technologies and components. In some jurisdictions, this unit of competency may form part of accreditation, licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements.
