This unit of competency specifies the skills and knowledge required to prepare new and previously coated shopfittings and surfaces, and to apply stains, lacquers, paint or sealer to create a specified finish. It includes scheduling work, which may be carried out off-site on units being fabricated for installation and other work completed on-site concurrently with other shopfitting work. It applies to shopfitters who prepare metal, timber, timber product or concrete surfaces of shop doors, windows, walls, ceilings, partitions and other shopfittings, and apply a range of liquid finishes to these surfaces. Individuals at this level take responsibility for organising and completing these tasks with a high degree of self-direction. 0579.E3.O2Check stained surfaces for consistent colour and dryness, and wipe to provide a clean surface for the application of lacquer.
