Lesson 1.3 — Green Skills for Electrical Work
Competency 2 of the TVC1 program is green practice: choose energy-efficient equipment (LED over incandescent, inverter air-con), size cables correctly to cut losses, segregate waste — copper offcuts are recyclable income, PVC and fluorescent tubes are hazardous waste — and advise customers on reducing consumption. A green electrician saves the customer money every month, which is the best advertisement you can have.
Key points
- LED uses ~85% less energy than incandescent for the same light
- Correct cable size = less heat = less loss = longer life
- Sort waste: copper (recycle), steel (recycle), PVC & tubes (hazardous)
