Lesson 4.2 — Measuring Instruments & Testing

1 · PROVETest the tester on aknown live source2 · TESTTest the isolated circuitL–N, L–PE, N–PE= 0 volts3 · PROVE againRe-test the tester on theknown source before touchNever trust a dead reading until the tester itself is proven working — before AND after.

The multimeter measures voltage, continuity and resistance; the clamp meter reads current without breaking the circuit; the insulation tester (megger) proves cables have not been damaged during installation — 500 V test, expect >1 MΩ. Before energising any new work: continuity of every conductor, insulation resistance, polarity (switch in the line, not the neutral), and earth continuity to every point. Then, and only then, close the main breaker.

Evidence task

Upload your test sheet: continuity, insulation, polarity and earth readings.
