Lesson 2.2 — Sawing & Drilling

Hacksaw technique from the manual: blade teeth forward, 3 teeth on the material, full slow strokes, pressure on the push only. For conduit, rotate the pipe as you cut and deburr with a file — a burr inside a conduit will strip cable insulation years later. On the pillar drill: clamp the work, correct speed for the bit diameter (big bit = slow speed), cutting fluid on steel, and never wear gloves at a rotating spindle.

  1. Mark and centre-punch the hole
  2. Clamp the workpiece — never hold by hand
  3. Set speed to bit size; start slow
  4. Drill with steady feed; back out to clear chips
  5. Deburr both sides with a countersink or file
