Lesson 1.2 — Inside the High-Voltage System
Trace the orange cables and you trace the danger. The RESS feeds a DC bus that runs to the inverter (which creates three-phase AC for the traction motor), the on-board charger, the electric A/C compressor, the PTC cabin heater and the DC-DC converter that keeps the ordinary 12 V system alive. Two electromagnetic contactors inside the battery pack are the gatekeepers: when they open, the HV bus outside the pack goes dead — but the pack itself is ALWAYS live inside its case, no matter what you disconnect. That is why no technician at this level ever opens a battery pack.
